Picture of tungsten alloy radiation shielding part shows the tungsten alloy radiation shielding part. After adding carbon to tungsten, its properties are similar to those of titanium carbide. Such tungsten products are currently mainly used as cutting tools in the field of mechanical processing. Sintered cemented carbide is neither a metal product nor a ceramic product. It is formed by the reaction of carbon and tungsten at a high temperature of 1400 - 2000℃. Due to its hardness as high as 86 - 93HRA (68 - 81HRC), and extremely high abrasion resistance and high cutting speed, it can no longer be called tungsten alloy but should be called cemented carbide. Cemented carbide has a series of excellent properties such as high hardness, wear resistance, good strength and toughness, heat resistance, and corrosion resistance. In particular, its high hardness and wear resistance remain basically unchanged even at a temperature of 500℃, and it still has a very high hardness at 1000℃. Cemented carbide is widely used as cutting tool materials, such as turning tools, milling cutters, planers, drills, boring cutters, etc. It can be used to cut cast iron, non-ferrous metals, plastics, chemical fibers, graphite, glass, stone, and ordinary steel. It can also be used to cut difficult-to-process materials such as heat-resistant steel, stainless steel, high manganese steel, and tool steel. Nowadays, the cutting speed of new cemented carbide tools can be hundreds of times that of carbon steel. Cemented carbide also has good crack resistance.
However, cemented carbide is brittle and difficult to process due to its high hardness. Special processes are required for processing. In contrast, high specific gravity tungsten alloy is easier to process. High specific gravity tungsten alloy can be used as tungsten alloy radiation shielding parts, crankshafts, and counterweight parts. These products are made of high specific gravity tungsten alloy materials because high specific gravity tungsten alloy has many excellent characteristics, such as good elongation, excellent corrosion resistance, and strong radiation absorption ability
