Tungsten-copper alloys are used in EDM (electric discharge machining) and ECM (electrochemical machining) electrodes.

Electrical Discharge Machining (EDM) is a special Machining method in which conductive materials are removed by electroerosion generated in pulse Discharge between poles immersed in working liquid.
Classification of EDM
According to the form of tool electrode and the characteristics of its relative movement with the workpiece, the edM can be divided into five categories: the edM using the forming tool electrode, relative to the workpiece for simple feed movement; Using the metal wire as the tool electrode, the workpiece according to the required shape and size of the track movement, to cut conductive materials electrical discharge wire cutting processing; Using metal wire or forming conductive grinding wheel as tool electrode, small hole grinding or forming grinding of electric spark grinding; Edm conjugate rotary machining for thread ring gauge, thread plug gauge, gear, etc. Small hole processing, engraving, surface alloying, surface strengthening and other kinds of processing.

Characteristics of EDM
1: EDM machining speed and surface quality mold in EDM machining generally using coarse, medium and fine processing. Rough machining adopts high power and low loss to achieve, while the relative loss of medium and finishing machining electrodes is large, but in general, the allowance of medium and finishing machining is less, so the electrode loss is also very small, which can be compensated by processing size control, or ignored when it does not affect the accuracy requirements.
2: EDM carbon slag and slag discharge EDM machining can be carried out smoothly under the condition of producing carbon slag and eliminating carbon slag balance. In practice, the processing speed is often sacrificed to remove carbon slag, such as high voltage, large rest pulse wave and so on in medium and finishing machining. Another reason affecting the removal of carbon slag is the complex shape of the machining surface, so that the chip removal path is not smooth. Only actively create good exclusion conditions, take some measures to deal with the disease is better.
3: spark workpiece and electrode mutual loss spark machine discharge pulse time is long, is conducive to reduce electrode loss. EDM rough machining generally uses long discharge pulse and large current discharge, fast processing speed and small electrode loss. In finishing machining, the pulse time of small current discharge must be reduced, which not only increases the electrode loss, but also greatly reduces the machining speed.
Electrochemical making A process by which metal materials are processed by electrochemical reaction (or electrochemical corrosion). Compared with mechanical machining, electrochemical machining is not limited by hardness and toughness of materials, and has been widely used in industrial production. The commonly used electrochemical machining is electrolytic machining, electric grinding, electrochemical polishing, electroplating, electroetching and electrolytic smelting.
Classification of electrochemical machining: electrochemical machining, conductive grinding, electrochemical polishing, electroplating, electroetching, electrolytic smelting.
