What is molybdenum lanthanum alloy ?

The molybdenum lanthanum alloy is composed of the base metal molybdenum and the lanthanum oxide existing in the matrix as dispersion particles. La2O3 content in the alloy is generally 0.5% ~ 5.0% (mass fraction).

History of Mo La alloy

Molybdenum has the characteristics of high melting point, excellent high temperature performance, good conductivity, heat conduction and so on. It is an important high temperature structural material. However, due to the relatively high plastic brittle transition temperature of molybdenum, when the molybdenum used at high temperature (higher than the recrystallization temperature) returns to the room temperature, it appears serious brittleness. Therefore, researchers at home and abroad have done a lot of research on the addition of rare earth to molybdenum. It is concluded that the addition of rare earth to molybdenum can refine the grain, reduce the plastic brittle transition temperature of molybdenum, improve the recrystallization temperature, high temperature strength, improve the toughness, plasticity and high temperature creep properties of molybdenum.

It is found that the mechanical properties of molybdenum are greatly improved by the addition of trace lanthanum oxide. After high temperature heat treatment, the lanthanum molybdenum material has excellent strength and toughness at room temperature, i.e. at liquid nitrogen temperature. However, the behavior of lanthanum oxide in plastic deformation and heat treatment is not fully studied. In recent years, a large number of experiments have been carried out on Mo La alloy in the refractory plant of Western materials, and systematic researches have been carried out on powder, pressing, sintering, sheet rolling and sheet performance.
